Preserving the charm of a country house without making it feel overly new.
For this house in La Garde-Freinet, the intervention was deliberately light. The aim was not to transform the property radically, but rather to preserve its character, its imperfections and the slightly retro atmosphere that already formed much of its charm.
The existing terracotta floors were restored, the exposed beams retained and a fireplace added to enhance the warmth of the living spaces. The new kitchen, while highly functional, adopts a deliberately Anglo-retro character, with deep materials, strong contrasts and a relatively dark palette.
The result is a warm, intimate and cocooning interior where original elements coexist with more contemporary interventions without ever being overshadowed by them.
The garden was approached in the same spirit: understated, simple and unmistakably Provençal. A house conceived above all as a retreat, where the priority was to reveal what was already there rather than reinvent its identity.
Préserver le charme d’une maison de campagne sans chercher à la rendre trop neuve.
